Our Story
KiranaKart is Mumbai’s fastest-growing instant grocery delivery app with plans to
expand nationally soon! We’re building better technology to acquire market share in
this unconquered, but massive, industry.
We’re a Y Combinator startup and we’re backed by some of the most respected
investors in Silicon Valley (currently in semi-stealth mode). Our founders are Stanford
students who returned to India once KiranaKart started taking off. Besides a bunch of
credentials, we’re young, ambitious, and we get shit done quickly.
Your Role
Before we jump into the technical jargon, let’s talk about the actual person behind
the code. We’re looking for a team player that’s excited by the adventure of a
rapidly-scaling startup. A creator that’s passionate about delighting real users by
building quickly and thoroughly. Most importantly, we value people with an
unrelenting drive and a tendency to question convention. Essentially, we’re searching
for someone that dreams of disrupting an industry, not working at a large
corporation for 25+ years.
In terms of hard skills, we need a highly-talented Backend engineer with experience
building reliable APIs for mobile applications at scale. Ideal candidates will be
well-versed in minimizing API overhead, comfortable with optimizing database
schemas, and fairly knowledgeable in orchestrating cloud infrastructure.
Our backend tech stack includes: Python, Flask, MongoDB, and multiple AWS services.
Bonus points for experience in Docker, Kubernetes, and managing CI/CD pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and maintain APIs that scale well, have minimum down-time
and follow best practices.
- Take full ownership of high-impact projects, like building new software for
delivery drivers and integrating with recommender systems for our marketplace.
- Leading projects involving third-party platforms, like route-optimization
software, product promotions, and invoicing/POS tools.
- Pioneering new initiatives/features that could substantially improve our
product and user experience.
- Being proactive about improving our dev framework, tooling, and workflow.
- Maintaining a stable DevOps pipeline for our applications and services.
- Write extensive, automated tests to weed out potential bugs quickly.
- Clearly document your work and decision-making processes.
- Understand and solve issues related to slow loading, security, response time,
and scalability for our APIs and Databases.
- Modelling efficient data stores and optimizing database interactions.
Desirable Skills and Experiences
- Extensive experience in implementing API development paradigms, patterns,
and best practices.
- Strong understanding of REST APIs, the document request model, and
asynchronous serving.
- Comfortable with designing complex queries and data structures for
MongoDB or equivalent NoSQL databases.

- Some knowledge of maintaining deployment pipelines and managing cloud
services to improve uptime.
- Comfortable with automated unit and integration testing suites.

lakhs per year).
More importantly, we’ll be offering generous equity compensation with significant
upside (minimum starting package of shares worth 20 lakhs, which would
substantially increase based on value-added). So, that puts our total starting
compensation at 52 to 57 lakhs.
